Writing a Personal Statement
Most colleges will require you to write a personal statement. This is one of the most important documents you will submit to showcase yourself. It is written in an essay format with proper English, punctuation and grammar. It is not a document to put together a long list of your accomplishments and nor is it a document filled with superlatives describing your greatness. Rather, it is a place to show howyou can stand out amongst 100’s of other candidates vying for the same position.
The personal statement has the following:
- Introduction
- Body
- Conclusion
Resume Preparation
A college resume can be very helpful to show case your accomplishments in a concise and easy to read format. You should craft a resume that is well written, without any spelling or grammar errors and does a good job showing off your accomplishments. It is your personal “brag” sheet. Use power words whenever applicable, like accomplished, led, managed, ensured, etc.
All resumes must have the following:
- Heading
- Overview
- Education
- Activities
- Awards
- Hobbies and Interests
The resume should be no more than one page long.
